When I first started going to church, I must say, I really enjoyed it. The people were wonderful, sermons always seemed to address an issue on which I needed, and my children liked going to church, something I didn’t enjoy when I was a child. After a while, the true meaning of going to church hit me; A close relationship with the Lord. I never had that. So, one day I prayed during worship and asked the Lord if he would give me a sign that he truly can hear my prayers. I closed my eyes and just waited. Then I saw a candle, an old time candle. The candle was lit. The words that came to me were, “Follow the light.” After worship, the time when everyone who felt the Lord put something on their heart would speak it out, I prayed and asked the Lord to have someone mention a candle or anything to do with light. That would be my confirmation. Well, not even close. I felt so disappointed. I felt like giving up. Before the children were dismissed for Children’s Church, Johanna’s class came up front and sang a song. The children were about 4 and 5 years old. One of my children was in the group. Watching her sing was so sweet. I didn’t even know they were going to sing! Even at home, nothing was mentioned. It was quite a surprise! Toward the end of the song, I started listening to the words. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. The song was, “This Little Light of Mine.” God sent the message through the children. What a wonderful blessing he gave me! When the children went back to their class, I got up and went to their room. I asked to see the book the song was in so I could read the words. Johanna gave me the book. I opened to the page, and there I saw the candle sitting next to the song the children sang. It was the same candle I saw while I was praying. To this day, I never doubt Jesus hears my prayers.
