Angels Were Watching
On a beautiful fall day in 2003, I was driving alone in Virginia. I was on a two-lane highway for that stretch of the road. Each direction had only one lane, with gravel on the shoulder. I had just finished a very pleasant trip to see my grandmother for the weekend. As I was driving along, something distracted my attention. I looked down at the floor of my automobile. When I looked up, two wheels were off the road. I swerved to correct the problem and ended up going into the other lane of traffic. Fortunately, at that moment, there were no other cars in my path. I tried to correct again; I steered the car in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, I then lost control of the car. I said to myself - there is nothing I can do; I am going to have an accident. However, I had a sense of peace that nothing was going to happen to me. I know God was looking right at me and saying – Daughter, it is not your time yet! The next thing I knew, I was sitting in the car off the road. I knew that I needed to get out of the car as quickly as possible. At that point, I was not exactly sure what had happened. So, I unbuckled my seatbelt, pushed the car door opened, and jumped out. Some people stopped right behind me to help. It was then that I realized the passenger side of my car had hit a tree full force, while I was traveling 60 mph. If anyone had been sitting on that side of the vehicle, or if the car had been turned towards the driver’s side, they or I would have been killed instantly. I was taken via ambulance to the hospital. While I was there, the staff x-rayed me, and did a number of medical tests. The hospital released me 6 hours later with only bruised ribs. It was a miracle that I survived this accident with no broken bones! The ONLY logical explanation for this is that God’s angels were watching over me. Some people have said that I was lucky. However, luck had nothing to do with it. It was God that ordained these circumstances and gave me my life.

My parents traveled 2.5 hours that night to pick me up from the hospital. We stopped by the old car to pick-up my luggage. I knew it would be the last time I would see that car. When I looked at the car, I realized that I could have easily died in the accident. The car was totaled.

The next day, I notified my insurance company. I still had one more year of payments on that car. On top of that, it was not in very good condition at the time of the accident. I wondered if I would even receive enough money to pay off the loan. I could not believe it when I found out the insurance company was going to pay me $3000 over the loan amount! It was then that I looked around for another car and decided to purchase a used Honda. However, it just so happened, that while I was looking, my Credit Union was having a car sale. I called the Honda dealer listed in the sale. He told me that I could buy a new 2004 Honda for only $1200 more than the used I was looking at. So, I test-drove the car and loved it! I ended up purchasing the new Honda. Now, my payments are actually $50 less than the old car I used to drive. God is so good, and He is faithful to those who are faithful to Him.
